50 for 2010 - Gareth #22
After yesterday’s selection of something cold and eerie, time for a record from this year that was decidedly warmer…

Konono No.1 - Assume Crash Position (Crammed Discs)
Fantastic Belgian label Crammed Discs continued the release of their mightily-acclaimed Congotronics series this year with the second release from Konono No.1.
Recorded in the backyards of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, many of the instruments used in the record are homemade from scrap metal and disused car parts, and the resulting sound is as unique and original as it is hypnotisingly brilliant.
Crammed Discs call this traditonal bazombo trance music, I wouldn’t be crass enough to pretend I’m an expert, but all I know is that it’s a sound unlike many I’ve heard this year, and for that reason alone deserves a place in every record collection.
